Foliplex

We prefer this brand because…...

“Foliplex” is probably the best-absorbed vitamin B12 formula we've experienced. Our patients have used it for years, and it works so well that we no longer need to offer vitamin B12 injections. It is tasty, easy to use, and we have seen excellent result with patients' blood B12 levels jumping up rapidly, for example going from a low 300 pg./mL to an ideal level of 800-900 within four weeks. Many patients report a steady improvement in overall stamina, and some comment that they feel a little energy boost for an hour after a dose. “Foliplex” is balanced with an ample amount of folic acid, which should always be included with vitamin B12 to make sure that a folic acid deficiency is not masked. We recommend that “Foliplex” is dissolved slowly under the tongue, in the morning or afternoon, between or after meals. It can be bitten into pieces to dissolve faster, but without chewing or swallowing it.“Foliplex” contains vitamin B12 as cyanocobalamin, which we've seen to be efficiently converted into the biologically active methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin forms in the body.

About vitamin B12 and folic acid

“Foliplex” provides both vitamin B12 and folic acid. Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin with crucial roles in DNA synthesis and activity in every cell, red blood cell formation and maturation, and normal functioning of the brain and nervous system. It is necessary for myelin sheath and nerve conduction, and also for neurotransmitters and brain metabolism, and for maintaining mood. It is also involved in energy production, via roles in fatty acid and amino acid metabolism. Many people have a dietary B12 deficiency, as it is only rich in red meats, organ meats like liver, and eggs, and neither fungi, plants, nor animals can make vitamin B12. And absorption of vitamin B12 is fraught with hurdles: in the stomach, vitamin B12 needs Intrinsic Factor to absorb, and sufficient acid to release it from protein foods. Then it travels all the way to the far end of the small intestine (terminal ileum) to cross into the blood stream. Taking a sublingual dose bypasses the digestive tract, and guarantees easy entry into the body. Deficiency of vitamin B12 is associated with tinging, numbness, fatigue, anemia, and at the worst mental impairment that resembles Alzheimer's.

For medicinal benefits, vitamin B12 is used for boosting low levels, asthma for which it is a specific remedy, mild depression, diabetes and diabetic neuropathy, raising sperm count, tinnitus, and it is sometimes given for multiple sclerosis. Vitamin B12 is also important for heart protection: along with vitamin B6 and folic acid it reduces homocysteine, a metabolic waste product that can damage artery walls, promote atherosclerosis, and compromise bone density.

Folic acid cannot be made in the human body, it is found in green leafy plants and converted in the body into the active dihydrofolate, tetrahydrofolate, and other forms. Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis and methylation and thus for cell division. It is critical for making red blood cells and for development of the fetal nervous system. It is involved in making neurotransmitters, and preventing depression. Working with vitamin B12 and B6 it lowers homocysteine, an excess of which may damage artery walls and worsen osteoporosis by interfering with collagen's role in building a strong bone matrix.

The medicinal uses of folic acid include cervical dysplasia for which it can improve abnormal Pap smears over six to twelve months; and preventing neural tube defects in pregnancy. For depression folic acid may increase serotonin in the brain and sensitize its receptors. Folic acid may lower stroke risk by reducing homocysteine; and 2009 research found that along with vitamin B12 and B6 folic acid decreased the risk of developing macular degeneration by 34.7%.

Cautions

Always take natural remedies under the supervision of your health care provider. Folic acid supplementation should always be taken along with vitamin B12, at least 400mcg daily, because folic acid can mask a B12 deficiency, reversing pernicious anemia but not addressing the neurological problems from B12 deficiency. Consult your healthcare professional before using “Foliplex” if you are taking estrogen, sulfasalazine or anticonvulsant medicines as these can all interfere with folic acid absorption; avoid folic acid if you are taking methotrexate. Rarely gas or diarrhea can occur with ultra high doses of folic acid above 5,000mcg. Only use if pregnant or nursing under the guidance of your physician.
