Buffered Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids
We prefer this brand because ...
Because it is buffered, this Vitamin C complex is gentle on the stomach, with a low-acidity potassium-magnesium blend, and a pH of 4.2. It is derived from 99.5% or higher purity USP vitamin C. It is highly absorbable, and far more rarely causes loose stools than other vitamin C formulas we've used.
Bioflavonoids are a crucial component in nature of the vitamin C complex, and so it is preferable to use them together. Bioflavonoids enhance the absorption of vitamin C and improve its utilization throughout the body. Rutin is a vascular protector, reducing capillary permeability and fragility, and possibly helping reduce varicose veins and hemorrhoids. Hesperidin helps to strengthen and to protect blood vessels and their linings, and may have a role in preventing osteoporosis.
About vitamin C and bioflavonoids
Vitamin C is a water soluble nutrient that is critical for the production of collagen, the main structural protein in connective tissue, cartilage and tendons that holds our bodies together. It is necessary for skin, bone, and joint health, and for wound healing. Vitamin C has a crucial role in gum health, and the functions of the inner ear, eye and retina. It helps stabilize the linings of blood vessels, and may help prevent varicose veins. It is also an important cofactor for the adrenal glands to manufacture their stress-managing hormones including cortisol. For adrenal fatigue the typical vitamin C dose is between 2,000 and 4,000 mg per day, best divided into several doses through the day as Vitamin C is water soluble and quickly excreted.
Vitamin C is a highly effective antioxidant that can protect the body’s tissues from damage by free radicals and reactive oxygen species that form during normal metabolism, as well as through exposure to environmental toxins and pollutants. In addition, Vitamin C helps the regeneration of other antioxidants such as Vitamin E. As an antioxidant, vitamin C is promising for disorders associated with oxidative damage, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cataract, macular degeneration; cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, reducing risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke. Vitamin C has a gentle role in reducing high blood pressure. It also helps with absorption and utilization of iron and folic acid.
Bioflavonoids are plant pigments that give fruits and flowers their colors. Citrus flavonoids including rutin and hesperidin are documented to help normalize capillary permeability and help varicose veins, hemorrhoids, reduce bruising, and maybe calm allergies. Flavonoids, as well as vitamin C, were discovered by the biochemist Albert Szent-Gyorgyi who received the Nobel prize for identifying their benefits.

Always take natural remedies under the supervision of your health care provider. Do not use vitamin C without the advice of your healthcare professional if you have kidney disease, gout, a history of kidney stones, or are on dialysis and vitamin C may increase the risk of kidney stones in those situations. Vitamin C may rarely be linked with flatulence or loose stools, and if so the dose should be reduced. Do not use without your physician's guidance if you are taking furosemide, a loop diuretic, nitrate medications, or tetracycline, as vitamin C may increase their effectiveness. There have been possible reports of vitamin C interfering with blood thinning medications, though follow up studies did not support this association. Avoid vitamin C during pregnancy and during lactation unless under the guidance of your physician.
